Barcamps

With our barcamps, we offer interested members of the Open Access community the opportunity to get into interaction with others, to network, and to learn from each other. In comparison to traditional conferences, the barcamp format is more open and does not have a predefined program. Instead, participants can propose topics or hold sessions themselves and thus discuss the issues that they are interested in. All topics related to Open Access are welcome.

Open Access Barcamp 2026 at the BIS Library and Information System of Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg

On April 29 and 30, 2026, the Open Access Barcamp will take place at the BIS Library and Information System of Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg in the Central Library on the Haarentor campus. Participants will put together a varied program themselves and discuss open access topics. Parallel content sessions and networking events will provide an excellent opportunity for professional and organizational exchange. Participation is free of charge. The exact schedule will be announced at a later date. The registration form is expected to be available here at the end of February.

Barcamp 2026 will focus on the topic of Diamond Open Access: Discussions could include, for example, experiences in building sustainable infrastructures, financing and organizational models, and other practical experiences from the community – including the question of what it takes to obtain the Diamond rating and what goals Diamond Open Access pursues. Other OA topics are of course also welcome. As usual, participants will design the program themselves and contribute their own topics and sessions.

The conference language is generally German. However, international participants are expressly welcome, and thanks to the open Barcamp format, sessions can of course also be held in English if required.

The Barcamp is being organized as part of the open-access.network project by staff from the Communication, Information, and Media Center (KIM) at the University of Konstanz and the Central Library of the BIS at the University of Oldenburg. Open-access.network is a BMFTR-funded joint project.
